Thanks Brian :) But definitely read-reread, listen-relisten Brian's message to unleash yourself from "diet chains", and enjoy life. You won't need to worry about dieting once you have digested Brian's message. I barely survived first three chapteres about sceitific background of his research, so you may skip them if it bores you.
Ok, so I thought that this would be a little to preachy but it was far from it. Me, everyone I know. Its just that good. He also goes on to clarify that we as Americans should pay attention to what goes in our mouth because it does reflect what we end up looking like. For example one of the studies he talks about giving people stale popcorn and you know what, the people ate this old popcorn even though it tasted bad, just for something to do.
On and on. So, anyhow, that one lesson alone maybe will make you turn the TV off when you are going to eat.He gives so many different studies that he researched and its well documented. For example, if you drink one regular soda a day and just replacing that 1 regular soda with diet soda or water, you can lose on average 10 lbs pounds a year. You will enjoy this book. The book is clear, concise and wastes no time getting to the many points. Even if you only get one tip out of this book you will agree it was well worth a read.He also talks about the tricks of the food industry in their packaging and how that makes us buy more, eat more. This book is excellent, easy to read and I read it fast, not intending to.
This book is obviously not an end all to weight loss solutions but it is indeed a nice little motivational book with a few practical tips. Before you know it you will be done with the book. The author is an expert and he researches the American eating habits. Well guess what, thats us.
I have yet to finish the book, but it is good so far. The author has quite an interesting take on how our minds work. He is informative and funny.
You can trick your body into NOT jumping to store fat because it noticed a big change. A great strategy for life. This book is insightful, funny and full of fascinating experiments done in the name of food and eating. When you add up just a few subtle changes, the sum is a lot less calories per year and that means it is perfectly realistic that you can weigh less next year than you do right now. Without preaching, the book merely lays out the info, and you will know exactly what to do based on who you are and what your habits are. It is not a diet plan per se, but I plan to listen to this book on CD at least 4 times a year from now on so that I will remember to practice all of the brilliance it contains. Best digest (pardon the pun): You can make very subtle changes in your habits that your body/appetite will not "notice" or miss.
He ends each chapter with a "Reengineering Strategy" to (almost) painlessly alter your eating habits. Ever wondered why cookies and cake are the stereotypical comfort foods. For those curious about the research, endnotes explain the science without interrupting the flow of the chapters. There are no promises for quick weight loss here - Wansick's focus is squarely on encouraging people to eat what they like and to like the way they eat. Or why it's so easy to snack your way through a big bag of popcorn, even when it's stale. Wansink puts his years of eating habits research into straightforward and entertaining prose.
